Greg O’Shea is a producer, engineer, mixer and songwriter known for working with several critically acclaimed artists including K-OS, Feist, Tegan & Sara, By Divine Right and Starling.
BIOGRAPHY
Greg O’Shea began his career under the tutelage of respected producer-engineer Ern Rose at Metropolis Audio in Melbourne, one of Australia’s premier recording studios in the early 90’s.
He learnt his engineering and production craft working on album and live concert recordings with Australian and international artists including John Farnham, Paul Kelly, Crowded House, Michael Hutchence, Nick Cave, INXS, Kate Ceberano, Hunters & Collectors, Deborah Conway, Neil Diamond, Boys to Men and Salt n Pepa to name a few.
His first break came with producing Melbourne punk rock band, Rootbeer’s second album. A local fav on the live circuit with alternative band’s like The Meanies, Bored and Nursery Crimes. On the eve of release, the band broke up and the album never saw the light of day, until a re-release more than a decade later.
Re-locating to Canada in the late 90’s, O’Shea began freelance engineering with Doug Mc Clement, owner of Livewire Remote Recorders. Working on live concert broadcasts with artists including David Bowie, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Brittany Spears, Barenaked Ladies, 98 Degrees, The Tea Party and Our Lady Peace.
By the early 2000’s O’Shea established himself as an in-house producer-engineer at Umbrella Sound studios in Toronto. A local favourite amongst the thriving indie, rock and alternative scene in Toronto.
Whilst engineering a session for hip hop group Rascalz, O’Shea was introduced to K-OS through their mutual artist management. They immediately found commercial success with single ‘Superstarr Pt. Zero’ on debut album ‘Exit’. Two platinum albums followed with O’Shea contributing co-producing, engineering and mixing credits to ‘Joyful Rebellion’ and ‘Atlantis - Hymns for Disco’, including a Juno Award for Single of the Year with the song ‘Crabbuckit’.
O’Shea also stepped out from behind the console in the mid 2000’s joining Melbourne based indie-pop band Brilliant Fanzine as producer, guitarist and co-writer. The band’s debut EP created industry buzz on the local scene, with single ‘One in 10,000 peaking at #3 on Triple J’s Net 50.
Throughout the 2010’s O’Shea worked with many independent artists, including songwriter Paul Ruske on the single ‘Washed in the River’ with the Grammy nominated Soweto Gospel Choir.
Recently O’Shea produced, engineered and contributed co-writing to singer-songwriter Sali Bracewell’s debut album ‘Kismet’ and produced, engineered and mixed folk blues troubadour Miguel Rios’s album ‘Slaughter House Road’.
Projects currently in production include new albums from Melbourne based hard rock band, The D.O.C. and British singer-songwriter Ed Reed.
